Nominations are now open!

The Actsafe Safety in Entertainment (ASE) Awards recognize individuals and organizations who were ambassadors and pioneers for safety over the course of the year in the arts and entertainment industries.

We are calling on you to nominate co-workers, organizations, and individuals that you feel prioritized safety from March 2021 to February 2022.

The six awards are listed below and the criteria for each is at the end of the page. Please note that we will only present awards to nominees that we deem to have met each of the required criteria.

Actsafe Safety in Entertainment Awards 2021 Winners

  • Performing Arts and Live Events Safety Board of the Year, presented to Port Theatre
  • Performing Arts and Live Events Safety Ambassador of the Year, presented to Matt Lees
  • Motion Picture and Television Safety Ambassador of the Year, presented to co-recipients Paul Klassen and Jason Lee

Actsafe Safety in Entertainment Awards 2020 Winners

  • Motion Picture and Television Safety Board of the Year, presented to Riverdale
  • Motion Picture and Television Safety Ambassador of the Year, presented to Lori Stewart
  • Performing Arts and Live Events Safety Board of the Year, presented to Clarke Theatre

For their continuous support towards workplace health & safety, the Special Recognition Award was presented to Sue Palladino & the Warner Bros. Safety Department.

Categories and Criteria

Motion Picture Safety Ambassador of the Year:

Awarded to an individual or organization that has carried the safety torch out to the industry.

Criteria

  • Only motion picture stakeholders qualify. This can include suppliers and companies not in our classification unit but are engaged in motion picture, television, or commercial production.
  • Must have engaged with Actsafe as part of their Safety Leadership.

Motion Picture Safety Innovation of the Year:

Awarded to an organization, company, or individual that has created or pioneered a safety system, philosophy, product, or policy that has positively affected the motion picture industry in BC. 

Criteria

  • Not limited to BC industry stakeholders, though preference will be given to BC nominees.

Motion Picture Safety Board of the Year:

Given to an organization or company that has the best safety board displayed at their production or workplace. 

Criteria

  • Must be an industry stakeholder.
  • Must contain the basic elements required by WorkSafeBC.
  • Creativity is considered.
  • Overall effectiveness.

To nominate: A photo of the safety board must be submitted, or the safety board must be observed by one of our safety advisors during outreach work.

Performing Arts and Live Events Safety Ambassador of the Year:

Awarded to an individual or organization that has carried the safety torch out to the industry.

Criteria

  • Only performing arts/live event stakeholders qualify. This can include suppliers and companies not in our classification unit, but that are engaged in performing arts/live events.
  • Must have engaged with Actsafe as part of their Safety Leadership.

Performing Arts and Live Events Safety Innovation of the Year:

Awarded to an organization, company, or individual that has created or pioneered a safety system, philosophy, product, or policy that has positively affected the performing arts/live events industry in BC.
