Actsafe is governed by the industries it represents through a Board of Directors and two standing committees that represent both the motion picture and performing arts industries. Membership on the Board and these committees include a balance of employer and worker representatives.

Our Core Values are:

Ted is passionate about the science of wellbeing, and has a long experience of being involved with workplace health and safety.

He is the chief negotiator of the DGC BC contract. Rob also participates in marketing endeavours through MPPIA to promote BC as a production destination. Rob actively runs the Reel Thanksgiving Challenge in support of the Greater Vancouver Foodbank. She has worked in the entertainment and motion picture industries for 23 years and for the past 10 she has been the labour relations representative for the major U.S. studios in Canada. She has been involved with Actsafe since its beginnings and currently is the Employer Representative for Motion Picture.

Miles Muir

Performing Arts Employer Representative

In the early 1980’s, Miles planned to attend Malaspina College’s tech theatre diploma program and to carry on to the University of Victoria for a degree in theatre – but after a year and a half in Nanaimo, he was hired by the college full time as the Technical Director of the theatre and was able to work on a large fully professional summer theatre festival called “Shakespeare +” in Nanaimo. It was also here that he began to be interested in worker health and safety in the performing arts and how that can fit in to the regulatory world of WorkSafeBC.

Miles moved to Victoria and was able to work at the McPherson Playhouse and Royal Theatres, and became the Production Manager at the Belfry Theatre in Victoria. In Vancouver, Miles has worked on Expo 86 as the Technical Director of one of the theatres in the Canada Pavilion, toured with the Vancouver Chamber Choir, and, as a member of IATSE Local 118 / 168, worked as a stage hand in all the major Vancouver venues. He has also toured internationally with various large Broadway musicals such as “Phantom of the Opera” and “Showboat”.
Miles has been the Technical Director of the three Civic Theatres (Queen Elizabeth Theatre, The Orpheum, and the Vancouver Playhouse), employed by the City of Vancouver for the last 21 years, and has been an active participant in Shape/Actsafe since its inception in 1998.

Dave Wilson

Performing Arts Worker Representative

Dave has been an Actsafe Performing Arts Standing Committee member since early 2018 and a Board member from 2019. He is a member of IATSE Local 118 (Vancouver, stage) and serves on the Local’s Executive Board as a Member-at-Large. His background also includes many years in association management, communications, and educational services through both employment and service with local, provincial, national, and international organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in human resources management and is a Certified Association Executive – a professional designation awarded by the Canadian Society of Association Executives.
