Are you seeking work in the oversight of COVID safety, in roles such as COVID Safety Coordinator/COVID Safety Officer/COVID Safety Compliance Officer/COVID Safety Manager? We have some good news for you!

Actsafe has created a COVID Safety Coordinator Program to get you ready to take on this role and to make you a more desirable candidate for this position. All you have to do to be certified is to complete six courses/workshops and make sure your STAR profile has a record that you have completed them.

One of the workshops that you have to complete in order to receive a COVID Safety Coordinator certificate is COVID Safety Coordinator: Planning and Working Onsite in the “New Normal”, a new workshop Actsafe has partnered with Lankey & Limey Ltd. to deliver.

There are a limited number of seats and preference will be given to those who are interested in completing the COVID Safety Coordinator Program. Please complete this application form if you would like to apply to take this workshop.

Upcoming dates: June 16 and July 6.

National AccessAbility Week

national accessability week

This week, May 30–June 5, is National AccessAbility Week. This is an opportunity to celebrate the valuable contributions of Canadians with disabilities, and to recognize the efforts of individuals, communities, and workplaces that are actively working to remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion.

One of Actsafe’s three core values is accessibility. We are happy to announce that the Motion Picture Industry Orientation course on June 26–27 will be ASL (American Sign Language) interpreted by Vanessa Coley-Donohue and Season Hunt. Actsafe endeavours to make more of our courses accessible so we can reach as many of our members as possible.

Also, next month’s Safety Scene is focusing on Respectful Workplaces and will include an article from Work Wellness Institute on accommodating work for people with disabilities. Keep an eye on your inbox at the end of June!

2020 Annual Report

2020 Annual Report

The world is going to remember 2020 as the year of the pandemic, but for the Actsafe Team and CEO, Manu Nellutla, it was seen as the year of resilience.

Throughout 2020, the arts and entertainment industries have been a resilient and supportive community through closures, social distancing, and adapting how they run their activities. We at Actsafe are privileged to be able to serve such industries during these challenging times.

Please take some time to read our 2020 annual report by clicking the button below and discover more about the industries we serve, the events we held, and the initiatives we focused on.

WorkSafeBC Fire and Explosion Risk Advisory

WorkSafeBC published a risk advisory on May 21 to support employers in reducing fires and explosions by implementing safe work procedures for refueling boats — minimizing the chance of fuel spills, removing sources of ignition, and providing adequate ventilation to eliminate gasoline vapours.

Brain Injury Awareness Month

In Canada, brain injury is the number one killer and disabler of people under the age of 44.

June is Brain Injury Awareness Month and is an opportunity to bring attention to the effects of brain injuries and the measures to take to help prevent them. A 2020 edition of Safety Scene included some informative articles and information on the importance of understanding concussions, the correct steps to take if you or a co-worker hits their head, and finding out first-hand what it is like to suffer from a concussion.
