Spotlight Interviews

Each month, as part of the Actsafe Safety Scene Digital Newsletter, we highlight a safety ambassador from within the motion picture and performing arts industries that makes sure their workplaces and co-workers preform their duties in a safe and efficient manner.  From special effects coordinators to choreographers, locations managers to stage managers, everyone has a role to play in working safely.

Working Alone

Working alone or in isolation — According to the Regulation, to work alone or in isolation “means to work in circumstances where assistance would not be readily available to the worker in case of an emergency, or in case the worker is injured or in ill health.”

Working alone or in isolation is fairly common in the motion picture industry, particularly for production assistants, security guards, drivers, and flaggers. Working alone can have serious consequences if a worker sustains an injury or becomes ill and no one is available to help them.

Actsafe produced this short, 5-minute video, to help address these concerns.

New and Young Worker Orientation Series

WorkSafeBC requires employers to provide all young and new workers with an orientation at each worksite. In Film and Performing Arts, locations change frequently, so Actsafe has produced a set of three videos to help supervisors, workers and employers better understand the content and requirements of the orientation.

VIDEO 1 – OVERVIEW 8 minutes

VIDEO 2 – EMPLOYER & SUPERVISOR RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES 2 minutes

VIDEO 3 – YOUR RIGHT TO REFUSE UNSAFE WORK 1.5 minutes
